Born in Prato April 7th 1953, he is a Union leader.
During XV and XVI Legislation he was Vicar MPs’ group leader for the ‘PartitoDemocratico’ – formerly ‘Ulivo’- in the Productive Activities Committee in the Chamber of Representative. Also in the XVI legislation he was member of the Committee of Inquiry on counterfeiting and piracy in the trade sector and member of the Committee for the evaluation of scientific and technological choices of the Chamber of Deputies.He was a deputy and member of the productive activities Committee also in the XIV legislature.
He has always been interestedin the problems related to the competitiveness of Italian firms and in particular of Made in Italy. He was also the first signatory of numerous bills including one on the structural characteristics of motor vehicles, which became law (Law 29 July 2010, n. 120). He has also promoted several initiatives encouraging the use of the electric car, some of which were later incorporated in the Development Decree.
He was a speaker for important bills at the Chamber, including one aimed at promoting commercial transactions between businesses and several measures designed to resolve the issue of delays in payments by the government.
In his parliamentary activity he has been very active in the liberalization’s field. Already speaker of the Bersani bill in 2007 and of other measures on the subject, he has always spent himself in favor of a more open and efficient market.
In 1995 he was assessor for economic development and mobility of the town of Prato.
Between 1990 and 1995 he was Deputy Secretary-General of the Chamber of Labour, after five years at the head of Filtea, the union of textile workers. He was president of the Association of European textile city and first point of contact in Prato for the arrival of the prestigious Australian University of Monash.
